A Nigerian man named Quadri Yakubu has advised people to be cautious about standing as surety for others in court.
On Tuesday, he shared his experience, revealing that a relative he agreed to stand as surety for in an Abuja court disappeared while their case was still ongoing.
Quadri explained that during the court session, the accused person was missing, and he was almost taken into custody as a result.
He recounted how he stood as surety for the relative in April, despite not knowing them well. Unfortunately, the relative fled while the court proceedings were still in progress.
“When the case came up yesterday, I was nearly taken to a place I didn’t even know, but with the help of a good lawyer and supportive friends, we resolved it out of court, and the case was dismissed,” he wrote.
Quadri urged others to be very careful about standing as surety for anyone in court to avoid getting into serious legal trouble.
