Jonathan Urges Fubara to Embrace Challenges as a Path to Leadership

Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has urged Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara to remain focused on developing the state, even in the face of political challenges. Speaking at the first-ever Etche Festival of Food, Art, and Culture in Nihi community, Etche LGA, Jonathan emphasized that tough times shape great leaders.

Jonathan likened Fubara’s struggles to battles that every leader must face. “Nobody becomes a general without fighting wars,” he said. “The challenges you’re facing now are making you stronger as a political leader. Stay committed, and with the support of Rivers people, you will overcome.”

Governor Fubara is currently at odds with Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, over control of Rivers State’s political structure. This dispute has led to unrest within the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Jonathan highlighted the importance of peace in Rivers State, noting that its stability is vital for the Niger Delta region and Nigeria’s economy. “If Rivers State is unstable, the Niger Delta is unstable, which affects the entire country. We want a peaceful Rivers, where leaders focus on serving their tenures without unnecessary conflict,” he said.

Governor Fubara expressed deep appreciation for Jonathan’s support and presence at the festival. “Your encouragement has been a pillar during these tough times. I canceled other commitments just to honor you and share this moment with the Etche people,” Fubara said.

Jonathan’s visit to the Etche Festival symbolized his commitment to unity and cultural celebration, offering a message of hope and resilience for Rivers State.
