The Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reached a major milestone by generating ₦2.1 trillion in revenue in 2024. This remarkable achievement highlights the progress in trade facilitation and the contribution to Nigeria’s economic growth.
The milestone was celebrated in Abuja, where the Comptroller-General of Customs, Wale Adeniyi, praised Dr. Babatunde Olomu, the Customs Area Controller of Apapa Port, for his innovative leadership. Under Olomu’s direction, the Apapa Command tackled major revenue challenges, boosting its performance and efficiency.
A key initiative led by Olomu was the establishment of a Revenue Recovery Committee, designed to address revenue leakages, especially at bonded terminals. In addition, a team was formed to resolve complaints and disputes, which significantly contributed to the command’s ability to reach this impressive revenue figure.
In his speech at the event, Comptroller-General Adeniyi commended the Apapa Command for exceeding expectations in both operational efficiency and commitment to national interests. “It’s about dedication to the country and showing exceptional commitment,” Adeniyi said. The Customs Service is also focusing on building a motivated and high-performing workforce, which is essential for continued success.
As part of the recognition ceremony, Dr. Olomu was honored for his leadership in improving trade, revenue generation, and operational excellence. He encouraged Nigerian businesses to make use of the facilities and initiatives available at Apapa Port, which have been streamlined to ease the process of doing business.
“We invite more businesses to leverage the services and initiatives at Apapa Port,” Olomu stated. “We remain committed to facilitating trade efficiently and contributing to the country’s economic growth.”
The Apapa Command’s success shows the Nigeria Customs Service’s commitment to innovation and efficiency. By addressing systemic issues and simplifying trade procedures, Apapa Port has become a role model for other ports across Nigeria. This achievement not only highlights the Apapa Command’s hard work but also reinforces the Customs Service’s role in supporting Nigeria’s broader economic transformation.
This impressive achievement is a testament to the power of leadership, innovation, and a commitment to progress, and it sets a strong foundation for future successes in trade and revenue generation across Nigeria.
