Port Harcourt Refinery: Mayor Akpodoro Calls Tinubu a Jinx Breaker

In a remarkable achievement for Nigeria’s oil industry, the Port Harcourt Refinery has resumed operations, marking a significant milestone in the country’s journey toward energy self-sufficiency. This success has been attributed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has been praised by the Mayor of Urhoboland, His Excellency Eshanekpe Israel, popularly known as Akpodoro.

Akpodoro referred to Tinubu as a “jinx breaker,” highlighting his ability to accomplish what previous administrations could not. For years, the Port Harcourt Refinery remained non-operational despite billions being spent on its repairs. According to Akpodoro, successive governments, particularly those led by the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), used the refinery as a means to siphon public funds, leaving it in a state of disrepair.

The Mayor didn’t spare the immediate past administration either. He criticized the previous APC-led government under Muhammadu Buhari for failing to operationalize the refinery despite funding efforts. Systemic corruption and inefficiency were blamed for these failures. However, Akpodoro believes Tinubu’s leadership has turned things around, delivering what he calls a “legacy project” for Nigerians.

The refinery is now operating at a capacity of 65,000 barrels per day, which is expected to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported fuel. Akpodoro expressed optimism that this development would help address the country’s energy crisis and potentially lead to lower fuel prices through market forces.

Akpodoro also praised Mele Kyari, the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), for his dedication and resilience. Kyari has been at the forefront of managing challenges like oil theft and public mistrust, which have plagued Nigeria’s oil sector. Despite sabotage attempts aimed at keeping Nigeria dependent on imported fuel, Kyari’s efforts have contributed significantly to the refinery’s progress.

“This milestone gives hope to Nigerians that a brighter future is possible,” Akpodoro said, applauding both Tinubu and Kyari for their roles in making this achievement a reality.

The resumption of operations at the Port Harcourt Refinery is a major step in addressing Nigeria’s long-standing energy challenges. It also signals a commitment to reducing the country’s reliance on foreign imports, creating a pathway for economic growth and stability.

As Nigerians celebrate this achievement, it stands as a reminder of what focused leadership and effective governance can accomplish.
