Mushin Local Government Faces Mixed Reactions After Renaming Aguiyi Ironsi Spare Parts Market to Paramo Market

In a recent announcement, the Mushin Local Government renamed the Aguiyi Ironsi Spare Parts Market in Ladipo to the Paramo International Spare Parts Market. The Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Emmanuel Bamigboye, shared the news in a video posted on his X account.

Bamigboye explained that the name change was made to honor Paramo Hassan Olajoku, the original developer of the market. He mentioned that the market was originally called Paramo, but at some point, it was renamed Aguiyi Ironsi.

“He (Paramo) died in the process of the activities of the party. We are using this opportunity to use this name to honour him. That is the situation. It has been reversed back to Paramo spare parts international market. That is the decision of the exco and the executive arm of Mushin local government and that is our resolution for now” he said.

This decision has received mixed reactions from the public. While some people have praised the move, others are curious about how the name change will impact the local community. Despite the differences in opinion, the local government has moved forward with the change, sparking further discussion among market vendors and residents.

The debate over the name change reflects the ongoing interest in preserving the history and development of local markets, as well as the role of such changes in shaping community identity.
