In a new legal battle, former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello is set to appear in court today. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has charged him with 19 counts of alleged money laundering. The arraignment is scheduled for this morning at the Federal High Court in Abuja before Justice Emeka Nwite.
This case was initially planned for January 27, but the EFCC moved it forward after the former governor’s presence at the agency’s office. Both his legal team and the EFCC have been notified to ensure everything runs smoothly during the arraignment.
This is the second time in just a week that Yahaya Bello is facing legal trouble. On November 27, he was arraigned at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on charges related to breach of trust. He denied all 16 charges in that case and requested bail so he can prepare his defense. The court will make a decision on his bail on December 10, while Bello and two others remain in EFCC custody.
With these developments, it seems that Bello’s legal challenges are far from over.
