Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has announced Friday, 29th November 2024, as a work-free day in honour of his late wife, Patience Umo Eno. The announcement was made in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah.
The governor’s wife will be laid to rest in Ikot Ekpene Udo, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area. The work-free day aims to give the people of Akwa Ibom an opportunity to pay their last respects to the former first lady.
The statement, on Wednesday, read, “Further to the final home-going programme of our departed First Lady, Her Excellency, Pastor (Mrs.) Patience Umo Eno, the Akwa Ibom State Government in consultation with the bereaved family has declared Friday, 29” November, 2024 Work-Free Day in honour of our dear mother.
“This is to enable Akwaibomites and other residents to pay their last respects to our mother at her obsequies in Tkot Ekpene Udo, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area on that day.
“May the gentle soul of our departed First Lady find repose in the bosom of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.”
Mrs. Patience Umo Eno passed away on 26th September 2024 after battling an illness. Her contributions and service to the state are fondly remembered by many.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of the Wife of the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Her Excellency, Pastor Mrs. Patience Umo Eno, following an illness. She passed away peacefully at the hospital, on 26th September, 2024, in the presence of her family.
“The family submits to the will of the Almighty and asks for the prayers and support of kind-hearted individuals during this difficult time. Further details will be provided by the family as necessary. In the meantime, the family kindly requests privacy as they mourn their beloved wife, mother and grandmother.
“His Excellency, the Governor, Pastor Umo Eno appreciates all who have stood by the first family in this period and assures all the citizens that despite this huge personal loss, his commitment to the service of the state is unwavering,” a statement from the Governor Umo Eno’s government announced.
