The Honourable Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has called on the Nigerian Airforce to step up its fight against banditry and terrorism. During an operational visit to the Air Component Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA in Katsina State on November 18, 2024, he stressed the Airforce’s vital role in restoring peace and security across the nation.
“You are key to this fight,” the Minister stated. “We must work together and make full use of your capabilities to win this war.”
In a statement released by Henshaw Ogubike, Director of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Defence, the Minister expressed deep appreciation for the Airforce’s courage and resilience. Their efforts, he noted, have brought hope to communities as farmers return to their lands, schools reopen, and businesses thrive again.
Minister Badaru highlighted the strong backing of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has equipped the Nigerian Airforce with advanced aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles to enhance their operational strength. Among these is the cutting-edge T129 Attack Helicopter, which the Minister described as a “game-changer” for combat operations.
With these new resources, the Minister expressed confidence that the Airforce would continue to make significant strides in securing the nation. He also urged close collaboration between the Airforce, ground forces, and other security stakeholders to maximize their impact.
During his visit, the Minister also traveled to Sokoto State, where he inspected the combat readiness of military platforms and reviewed plans for a permanent Airforce base at Sokoto Airport. This base will further support the fight against banditry and terrorism in the region.
Air Marshal Hassan Bala Abubakar, Chief of the Air Staff, thanked the Minister for his leadership and praised the government’s commitment to national security. He emphasized that the T129 Attack Helicopters would significantly enhance their capabilities, sending a strong message to those seeking to destabilize the country.
This operational visit reflects the government’s unwavering determination to address the challenges of banditry and terrorism. Through advanced technology, strategic planning, and the dedication of the Nigerian Airforce, the nation is on a path to lasting peace and stability.
