Victor Osimhen, the Super Eagles and Galatasaray star, has revealed a special pre-match routine that motivates him to perform at his best. The talented striker shared that he always speaks to his daughter before playing any match. This heartfelt tradition gives him the inspiration and drive he needs on the field.
During an interview on Sunday, November 17, with Complete Sports, Osimhen was asked about the last person he contacts before a match. His answer? His daughter. “Talking to her gives me a special kind of energy,” Osimhen explained, highlighting how family plays a vital role in his life and career.
“My daughter,” though he refrained from revealing her name.
“My daughter, of course,” he said. “I also speak with her mum – my wife. Most of the time, we pray together before I head into a game. But for sure, I must speak with my daughter, hear her voice, and then I’m good to go. They are my strength.”
Osimhen also expressed his happiness over the Super Eagles’ early qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The team secured their spot in the tournament with one match remaining, a significant achievement for Nigeria.
“It feels good. It gives one some kind of relief, you know. We deserve to be there in Morocco 2025. For me, it’s a big congratulations to the entire team and massive credit to the coach, the staff, and everyone associated with the Super Eagles. I think we all deserve it. A big thank you to all Nigerians who have been supporting us right from the start of the qualifiers,” Osimhen stated.
“Now, we have the final game on Monday, and we want to end on a high note by securing a convincing win in front of our fans before returning to our clubs. Then, we’ll come back to prepare for the World Cup qualifiers.”
“When we started, it was a bit shaky, but now we’ve identified our weaknesses and where we need to improve. The coach has been addressing these issues during team meetings.
“Against Rwanda, we want to win convincingly in front of our fans. After that, we’ll focus on preparing for the World Cup qualifiers next year. Our goal is to win every game and secure the ticket to the 2026 World Cup.”
In addition, the 25-year-old shared some insight into his success as a striker, particularly his impressive ability to score goals with his head. While he didn’t reveal all the details, it’s clear that hard work and practice have shaped his remarkable skill set.
“I’m used to it. Growing up, I learned these attributes from senior players. Many were great with their feet, while some excelled with their heads. I studied and worked on both aspects, and I think I’ve done well so far.”
Victor Osimhen’s story is a reminder of how personal connections and hard work can fuel success, both on and off the field.
