Just two days before the Ondo State governorship election, three candidates have withdrawn from the race to support Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC). This move is seen as a significant boost to the governor’s re-election bid.
The candidates stepping down are:
- Dr. Ajibola Falaye of the Accord Party (AP)
- Hon. Jenyo Ataunoko of the National Rescue Movement (NRM)
- Mr. Olaide Rasheed Ibrahim, the deputy governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The announcement came during a visit to Governor Aiyedatiwa in Akure, the state capital. Dr. Falaye, speaking on behalf of the three parties, explained that their decision was based on the governor’s outstanding achievements and commitment to the welfare of the people.
Dr. Falaye highlighted how Aiyedatiwa’s inclusive approach to governance and progressive policies align with the goals of their parties. He commended the governor for prioritizing development and fostering unity across Ondo State.
Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed his gratitude for the candidates’ support, calling their decision an act of statesmanship. He assured them that his administration would continue to prioritize the progress and well-being of Ondo residents.
“This endorsement reflects a shared commitment to making Ondo State better,” Aiyedatiwa said, welcoming the unity shown by the parties.
This endorsement, coming so close to the election, strengthens the APC’s position and showcases Governor Aiyedatiwa’s growing support among political stakeholders in the state.
The governor said “There’s no time left. I appeal to you all to encourage your members to come out in full force on Saturday and cast their votes for the APC.”
As Ondo voters head to the polls on Saturday, the governor’s supporters see this development as a sign of his broad acceptance and readiness to lead the state for another term.
