Pastor E.A. Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), recently shared his thoughts on Nigeria’s economic struggles, especially the falling value of the naira. Speaking at the Special Holy Ghost Congress in Abuja, Adeboye said that if it hadn’t been for God’s intervention, the naira might have plummeted to ₦10,000 per dollar by now.
He highlighted the country’s heavy reliance on fuel imports despite having abundant oil resources. According to Adeboye, billions of naira have been wasted on refineries that don’t function properly, leaving Nigeria dependent on imported petrol. This ongoing issue has contributed to the country’s financial difficulties.
Adeboye also touched on the controversial decision to remove fuel subsidies. He explained that while the government’s action was necessary, it upset many who benefited from the subsidies, adding to the country’s financial problems.
“The root of our financial issues lies in the importation of petrol,” Adeboye said. “Despite having oil, we continued to import petrol and waste money on refineries that didn’t work.”
As the value of the naira continued to decline, Adeboye said he prayed for divine help and was grateful for the prayers of others. He firmly believes that without God’s intervention, the naira could have fallen even further.
“If God hadn’t stepped in, $1 could have been worth ₦10,000 by now,” Adeboye remarked, emphasizing the importance of prayer in the face of the country’s financial challenges.
In the end, Adeboye’s message was clear: Nigeria needs divine intervention to overcome its economic struggles, especially when it comes to managing its fuel imports and refineries.
