Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, celebrated his 52nd birthday by spending time with schoolchildren on November 8, 2024. The event took place at Oyewole Primary School in Agege, where he encouraged students from various schools to focus on their studies and aim for success.

During the celebration, Obasa rewarded brilliant students from all over Lagos with cash prizes, urging them to avoid bad influences and stay focused on their education. He shared his own story, telling the students how, as a child, he never imagined reaching the position he holds today. He encouraged them to work hard and believe in themselves, regardless of which school they attended. “It doesn’t matter the name of your school, what matters is your dedication and effort in your studies,” he said.

One special moment during the event was when the Speaker and fellow lawmakers presented a N5 million donation to Aminat Alege, a student who had been injured by a teargas canister earlier in the year. The funds were raised to help with Aminat’s medical and educational expenses, showing the lawmakers’ support for the young girl’s recovery and future.

Additionally, two students won scholarships in a current affairs quiz held at the event. Moyinoluwa Ishola of Ikeja Junior High School took first place, while Ayomiposi Isiaka from Eko Junior College came in second. Both students were awarded scholarships by Babatunde Johnson, the chairman of Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area.

In his speech, Hon. Noheem Adams, Majority Leader of the Lagos House of Assembly, praised Obasa for his leadership and the development projects he had brought to Agege. Tutor-General Adekanye Oladele also thanked the Speaker for his ongoing support of education in Lagos, promising that the students would continue to make the state proud.
