After Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election, the combined wealth of the world’s ten richest people rose by a massive $64 billion in just one day. According to The Bloomberg Billionaires Index, this was the largest single-day wealth increase in the history of the index, which has been tracking the world’s billionaires since 2012.
Elon Musk led the way, adding a remarkable $26.5 billion to his wealth, which now totals $290 billion. This jump came mainly from a boost in the share price of Tesla, the electric car company Musk is closely tied to.
Jeff Bezos, the second richest person, saw his wealth grow by $7.1 billion, bringing his fortune to $228 billion.
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, saw his wealth stay mostly unchanged at $202 billion, while Bernard Arnault, the French luxury goods tycoon, was the only one in the top 10 to lose money, with a drop of $2.58 billion.
Other notable increases included Warren Buffet, who added $7.5 billion, and Larry Ellison, the chair of Oracle, who saw his fortune grow by $9.88 billion, bringing it to $193 billion.
Microsoft’s co-founders Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer, as well as Larry Page and Sergey Brin of Google, also saw their wealth rise by billions.
