Donald Trump has achieved a historic comeback in the US presidential election, winning a strong victory over Democrat Kamala Harris. Despite expectations of a close race, Trump swept key battleground states and took a lead in the national popular vote, securing his return to the White House.
This victory makes Trump the first former president in more than 130 years to be re-elected and, at 78, the oldest to hold the office. At a victory rally in Florida, Trump promised his supporters he would bring about “a new golden age” and pledged to “restore America to greatness.”
Trump, alongside his family and his vice-presidential pick, JD Vance, celebrated with supporters in West Palm Beach, calling it “a magnificent victory for the American people.” He assured them he would dedicate all his energy and commitment to fulfill the role.
Throughout election night, Elon Musk, the world’s richest man and a major supporter of Trump, shared positive updates on X (formerly Twitter), which he owns. Trump won critical states like Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Georgia, and North Carolina, and appears on track to sweep all seven key swing states.
Unlike 2016, projections indicate Trump will likely win the popular vote. He holds a steady lead in Nevada, with a close race ongoing in Arizona. Trump’s support remained strong across conservative regions, while Harris won liberal states from New York to California.
Kamala Harris was expected to address supporters at her alma mater, Howard University, in Washington DC, but no statement has been made so far.
