The Lagos State Government has announced a 15-month traffic diversion at Mile 2 to support the construction of a new Transport Interchange Terminal. This major project, set to connect rail, bus, water, and non-motorized transport like cycling and walking, is part of the state’s efforts to improve public transport for Lagos residents.
The diversion will begin on November 11, 2024, and is expected to last until February 16, 2026. During this time, specific lanes at Mile 2 will be closed to enable construction, including:
- Loop 1 on the Apapa-bound lane
- Loop 4 on the Badagry-bound lane
To manage the traffic flow during this period, the government has set up alternative routes to minimize disruptions.
- From Apapa to Oshodi (and vice versa): Through traffic will remain open.
- From Apapa to Badagry: Take the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, turn onto Akinwande Road, then connect through Coker to access the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
- From Badagry to Lagos: Motorists can use the regular route with no diversion.
- To Apapa: Divert to Durban Road, pass through Amuwo Odofin Estate, then rejoin the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway.
The government has set up clear signs along these alternate routes to guide drivers. In addition, LASTMA officers will be on the ground to help manage traffic flow. Commissioner for Transportation Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi has assured residents that this diversion is crucial for the project’s progress and has asked for their cooperation.
This new terminal, once completed, will greatly enhance travel options for Lagos residents, offering a smoother and more connected commute through rail, bus, and water transport.
