The Abuja community of Mpape is reeling from the shocking death of a 19-year-old scrap worker, Sefilahi Danlami, who was killed in an incident at Pantaker Market on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. and has raised concerns about safety in the area.
According to witnesses, the situation became violent when one worker, Ibrahim Dahiru, accused Sefilahi of stealing from him. Reports say that Ibrahim then gathered a group of young men, who allegedly attacked Sefilahi with sharp objects in the crowded market. The attack led to Sefilahi’s death, causing an uproar in the community.
“On Friday at pantaker market, 2:30pm, Ibrahim Dahiru and some other pantakers boys attacked Sefilahi Danlami.
“Ibrahim who said Danlami stole from him arranged some boys to attack him with dangerous weapons at pantaker market and he was stabbed to death,” the source said.
Local authorities were quickly alerted, and police officers were dispatched to the scene. On Saturday, Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, confirmed the tragic incident. She announced that Ibrahim Dahiru, a 22-year-old suspect, was taken into custody and is now under investigation. Authorities are working to piece together the details of the case and are asking community members with information to come forward.
The incident has left residents deeply worried and calling for more police presence to ensure safety in the area. Many have expressed concern about the level of violence and are seeking assurance that incidents like this will be prevented in the future.

She said; “It is a case of culpable homicide at Panteka market in Mpape of the FCT. A distress call was received by Mpape Police division FCT Police Command on 01 November 2024. Police operatives dispatched to the scene, one suspect by name Ibrahim Dahiru 22 yrs old was arrested.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect earlier mobilised seven (7) of his friends who are currently at large to attack the deceased Sefilahi Danlami ‘m’ 19yrs old, resulting in his death. Investigations are still ongoing to unravel the facts of the incident and updates will be given in due course.”
