Senate Delays Screening of President Tinubu’s Ministerial Nominees for Documentation Completion

The Nigerian Senate has announced a delay in the screening of President Bola Tinubu’s newly nominated ministers. Originally scheduled for Tuesday, October 29, the screening has been moved to Wednesday, October 30, at 12 pm.

The statement reads; “The scheduled screening of ministerial nominees has been postponed by the Senate. This is to allow all nominees to conclude all aspects of documentation and pre-screening exercises.

“The screening has been rescheduled for Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at 12 noon prompt.

“We appreciate your understanding and patience.”

The reason for the postponement is to give the nominees extra time to complete necessary documentation. This update was shared by Basheer Lado, Special Adviser on National Assembly matters for President Tinubu.

President Tinubu submitted a list of seven nominees to the Senate last week, requesting confirmation for their appointments. The list was presented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during a plenary session.

The nominees, each chosen for specific ministerial positions, include:

  • Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda – Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction
  • Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi – Minister of Labour and Employment
  • Bianca Odinaka Odumegwu-Ojukwu – Minister of State for Foreign Affairs
  • Dr. Jumoke Oduwole – Minister of Industry, Trade, and Development
  • Idi Maiha – Minister of Livestock Development
  • Yusuf Abdullahi Ata – Minister of State for Housing
  • Dr. Suwaiba Ahmad – Minister of State for Education

This rescheduled screening will allow the Senate to proceed with confirmation once the nominees finalize their documentation. The delay emphasizes the importance of thorough preparation for each ministerial role, ensuring the nominees are fully prepared to step into their positions.
