A 17-year-old student from Imo State University (IMSU), Jesse Chidiebere, has been arrested for faking her kidnapping and death. This incident has caused panic among her family and the university community.
On October 26, 2024, the Imo State Police received distress calls from concerned citizens reporting that Jesse was missing. In response, police spokesperson ASP Henry Okoye explained that Jesse had sent a message from her WhatsApp account claiming she had been abducted and killed. This message led to widespread worry, prompting an urgent search for her.
The following morning, on October 27, the police found Jesse safe and realized she had fabricated the entire story as a prank. Authorities are now investigating her motives for this dangerous act and she is likely to face prosecution for her actions.
Imo State Police Commissioner, CP Aboki Danjuma, expressed his disappointment over the situation, calling it irresponsible behavior that wasted valuable police resources and caused unnecessary panic in the community. He urged parents to talk to their children about the dangers of such pranks and spreading false information. The police are committed to ensuring safety and combating misinformation in the state.
