Omowunmi, the widow of late Nigerian singer Mohbad (Ilerioluwa Aloba), has agreed to undergo a DNA test to confirm the paternity of their only son, Liam. This decision comes after a series of legal actions following Mohbad’s death on September 12, 2024, which raised many questions and concerns.
Following his passing, Mohbad was buried in Ikorodu, Lagos, but due to public demand for clarity surrounding his death, his body was exhumed for an autopsy. Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, took legal steps to request a DNA test for his grandson to verify if Mohbad was indeed Liam’s biological father.
Joseph’s legal team initially struggled to serve Wunmi with the necessary court documents. During a court session on July 9, 2024, the Magistrates Court in Ikorodu encouraged both parties to seek an out-of-court resolution. However, early negotiations did not lead to an agreement.
Recently, Monisola Odumosu, a representative from Joseph’s legal team, announced that Wunmi had agreed to the DNA test. This agreement marks a significant development in the ongoing case and has been recognized by the court. As part of the settlement, the DNA test will be conducted at an accredited medical facility within Lagos or another agreed-upon location.
Joseph Aloba has pledged to cover all costs associated with the DNA testing, including facility fees and any other related expenses. To ensure the process’s integrity, the court has appointed officials to oversee the DNA testing.
Both parties will be responsible for their legal costs, with the exception of the DNA test expenses, which Joseph has agreed to pay.
This development brings a sense of resolution to a highly publicized case, as the family seeks clarity and closure surrounding Mohbad’s legacy and the future of his son, Liam.
