FRSC Staff Abducted in Enugu; ₦50 Million Ransom Demanded

In a troubling incident in Enugu State, Emeason Chima, an official from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), was kidnapped on Saturday. The abduction took place near Maduka University in Nsukka while Chima was driving alone in his Toyota saloon car.

The kidnappers have demanded a hefty ransom of ₦50 million for his release. They contacted the commander of Chima’s unit, Emmanuel Al-Hassan, using Chima’s phone to make their ransom demand.

This kidnapping is part of a larger trend of increasing insecurity in the South-East region of Nigeria, where non-state actors have frequently targeted individuals, leading to numerous abductions and substantial ransom demands. Government officials, military personnel, and police officers have also been at risk.

The Nigerian government has accused the pro-Biafra group, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), of orchestrating these violent acts. However, IPOB has consistently denied any involvement in the kidnappings.

The FRSC has confirmed the kidnapping incident, and an investigation is currently underway. More updates are expected as the situation develops.
