Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State are expressing strong disapproval over President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s nomination of Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu as a minister. The APC leaders argue that this decision was made without consulting them, undermining the unity and loyalty within the party.
During a recent emergency meeting in Awka, APC officials voiced their concerns. High Chief Bunty Onuigbo, a South East Zonal Secretary of the APC, represented the group’s sentiments. He labeled the president’s decision as “anti-party,” pointing out that such an appointment could discourage loyal APC members and risk dividing the party.
Onuigbo questioned the possible impact of Ojukwu’s appointment, suggesting that it might drive some APC members in Anambra to join the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), a rival political party. He expressed frustration, noting that APGA often excludes APC members from benefits tied to government programs. According to Onuigbo, this appointment by the president gives an impression of favoritism towards APGA, which could further alienate APC supporters.
The APC leaders decided to officially voice their concerns to the state Chairman, Chief Basil Ejidike. They plan to escalate the issue to the National Working Committee (NWC) and the National Executive Committee (NEC), hoping for a review of the appointment to ensure the APC’s interests in Anambra are prioritized.
This situation highlights growing tensions within the APC in Anambra as party leaders seek to maintain unity and protect their members’ interests.
