Super Eagles Climb in Latest FIFA World Rankings as Libya Falls

The latest FIFA men’s world rankings have brought good news for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, who have risen from 39th to 36th place. This positive change was announced on October 24, reflecting the team’s performance and resilience in recent competitions.

In addition to their global ranking, the Super Eagles have also moved up in Africa, climbing from sixth to fourth position. This rise comes despite the controversy surrounding their recent match against Libya. The Eagles opted to void the game due to poor treatment by the Libyan government and the Libyan Football Association during the return leg in Libya. This decision highlights the challenges the team faces off the pitch, but it hasn’t hindered their overall progress in the rankings.

In the African context, the Super Eagles are now positioned behind three teams. Morocco stands as the highest-ranked team in Africa at 13th in the world, followed by Senegal at 20th and Egypt at 30th. This ranking showcases the competitive nature of African football and the caliber of teams in the region.

Looking ahead, the Super Eagles have crucial matches coming up in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers. They are set to face the Benin Republic, who will host them on matchday 5. However, Benin has recently dropped to 95th in the FIFA rankings, indicating a potential opportunity for the Eagles to capitalize on their lower ranking.

Their matchday 6 opponent, Rwanda, has improved in the rankings, moving up to 126th. Meanwhile, Libya’s drop to 122nd reflects their struggles on the international stage and adds further context to the Super Eagles’ recent decision regarding their match.
