Residents Extract Fuel from Fallen Tanker in Cross River, Ignoring Dangers

In a troubling incident in Akamkpa, Cross River State, locals were seen scooping fuel from a fallen tanker. A viral video shows people filling various containers, such as jerry cans, with the fuel, despite the serious dangers involved in this practice. One concerned man in a car attempted to warn them about the risks, but his warnings seemed to go unheeded.

This incident comes just days after a tragic explosion in Jigawa State, where close to 200 people lost their lives. Governor Umar Namadi revealed that 181 people died and about 210 families were affected by that explosion. The disaster occurred when a petrol tanker exploded in Majiya town along the Kano-Hadejia expressway. The governor also mentioned that around 80 people were hospitalized due to injuries from the explosion, and the state government has been covering their medical expenses.

This recent event highlights the ongoing dangers associated with extracting fuel from fallen tankers, especially given the tragic consequences witnessed in Jigawa State. It’s a stark reminder of the risks that individuals take in pursuit of fuel, often ignoring safety warnings.
