Deji Adeyanju, a human rights lawyer and activist, has made a bold claim: President Bola Tinubu will not lose any elections, especially the upcoming 2027 election. Adeyanju believes the opposition parties wasted their chance in the 2023 presidential election by failing to unite behind a single candidate who could challenge Tinubu effectively.

He argues that former President Muhammadu Buhari did not support Tinubu’s candidacy, which could have opened the door for the opposition. Adeyanju suggests that if the opposition had worked together, they could have taken advantage of the divisions within Tinubu’s party.

Criticizing the opposition, he stated, “What’s the point of a merger if it doesn’t lead to winning elections? They are unlikely to win against Tinubu. They should continue on their ego path.” He feels that the leaders of the opposition, including Kwankwaso, Obi, and Atiku, focused too much on their individual ambitions, leading to a split in their votes.

Adeyanju believes they missed a crucial opportunity to unite against a president who seemed ineffective and was not genuinely supportive of Tinubu. He pointed to the recent Edo election, which raised questions about the integrity of the results, saying, “Tinubu can’t lose an election that he organizes.”

In conclusion, Adeyanju argued that instead of merging, the opposition should test their popularity separately. He feels that a merger will not change the political landscape in Nigeria, as the ruling party, the APC, is well-positioned to maintain power.

With the 2027 elections approaching, the opposition will need to reassess their strategy if they hope to challenge Tinubu effectively.
