Senator Neda Imasuen, representing Edo South in the National Assembly, has raised serious concerns about the policies of President Tinubu’s administration. In a recent interview on Channels Television’s Inside Sources, Imasuen criticized decisions like removing the petrol subsidy and unifying foreign exchange rates, claiming these measures have significantly harmed Nigerians, especially the middle class.
Imasuen, a member of the Labour Party and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, emphasized that while the legislature can support the executive branch, this moment requires everyone to come together and seek real solutions instead of placing blame.
He expressed deep concern over the current hardships faced by Nigerians, stating, “The suffering that Nigerians are going through right now is too much of a price to pay.” He highlighted the challenges in the economy, noting, “This country does not produce; we import everything and are devaluing our naira. I don’t see how that will help us.”
According to Imasuen, it is crucial to develop local industries and strengthen small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to provide the middle class with more opportunities to thrive. He pointed out that every nation supports its economy with subsidies, particularly in agriculture, stressing, “Today, many cannot buy a bag of rice; it’s about N100,000.”
Imasuen’s comments reflect a growing concern among many Nigerians about the direction of economic policies and their impact on everyday life. He calls for collaboration and innovative solutions to alleviate the suffering faced by the populace.
