A tragic event unfolded in Ugbaike, Enugu State, where a young man named Chikwado Eze lost his life during a fortification ritual at a native doctor’s shrine. This incident has raised alarm and concerns about the dangers of extreme traditional practices in the area.
Chikwado had recently returned to his village to inform his father that his visa had expired. In an attempt to help his son succeed abroad, his father suggested seeking the services of a native doctor for spiritual fortification. The native doctor, known as Onuwa, instructed that Chikwado should be buried alive for one hour and thirty minutes as part of the ritual.
Tragically, when Chikwado was unearthed, he was found dead. Following this shocking discovery, the Enugu State Police arrested both Chikwado’s father, Uwakwe Eze, and the native doctor, Onuwa. A police spokesperson stated, “The Command is investigating the circumstances surrounding Chikwado’s death and will ensure that justice is served.”
The Ugbaike community is in deep shock, with many residents expressing their sadness and outrage over this tragic loss of life. One local resident lamented, “This is a senseless and heartbreaking incident. It’s unacceptable that such harmful practices still exist in our society.”
This incident underscores the pressing need for education and awareness about the dangers associated with harmful traditional practices. A local leader emphasized, “We must work together to eradicate such harmful beliefs and ensure that our youth are protected from exploitation.”
In response to this tragedy, there are calls for the Enugu State Government to take immediate action to address these issues and prevent similar incidents in the future. The community seeks reassurance that such dangerous practices will not be tolerated and that justice will be served for Chikwado.
