Four Workers Die in Fire Accident That Destroys Lounge and Bar in Lagos

A devastating fire erupted in a lounge and bar located on Baale Road in the Olodi Apapa area of Lagos State, leading to a tragic loss of life. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, October 13, 2024, at approximately 7:45 a.m., has left the community in shock and mourning.

According to SP Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, a distress call was received shortly after the fire began. Emergency services were promptly dispatched to the scene. Despite their swift response, the fire had already engulfed the entire building, making it difficult for the firefighters to contain the flames quickly.

Tragically, four workers at the lounge and bar lost their lives in the fire. The extent of the damage was so severe that the victims were burned beyond recognition. Their bodies were later recovered and taken to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) morgue in Yaba for identification.

The incident has raised serious concerns about safety standards in public places, especially in establishments that serve food and drinks. Community members are calling for increased inspections and enforcement of fire safety regulations to prevent such tragedies from happening in the future.

Firefighters worked tirelessly to extinguish the flames, but the fire’s intensity posed significant challenges. The response from the police and fire departments was swift, yet the outcome was heartbreaking. SP Hundeyin emphasized the importance of emergency preparedness and the need for businesses to have proper fire safety measures in place.
