Former Benue State governor, Gabriel Suswam, has expressed concern over the economic hardship currently affecting Nigerians. Speaking in an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Suswam highlighted how rising prices are making life difficult for everyday citizens, including himself.
One of the major points Suswam raised was the steep increase in the cost of eggs. He noted that a crate of eggs, which used to cost less than N1,000, is now priced at N10,000. This sharp rise has made eggs, a staple in many homes, almost unaffordable for the average family. “People can’t eat eggs in their homes anymore,” he said, illustrating the struggle.
Beyond the issue of food prices, Suswam also addressed the difficulties Nigerians face in transportation. Many are finding it increasingly hard to afford transportation to work due to the rising cost of fuel and public transport. These challenges, according to the former governor, are making daily life harder for millions across the country.
In response to these issues, Suswam called on President Bola Tinubu to re-evaluate his economic team. He believes that an urgent meeting is necessary to reassess the country’s economic policies and find solutions to ease the burden on Nigerians. Suswam’s plea comes at a time when the country is facing a tough economic climate, leaving many citizens struggling to meet their basic needs.
As Nigerians continue to deal with these challenges, there is a growing demand for action from the government to address the root causes of these problems and provide relief to the people.
According to Suswam: “A crate of eggs that was less than N1,000 is N10,000 now. So it means that me and you can’t afford to eat eggs in our houses. I left government for almost 10 years.
“The President should call a meeting not just on economics; people cannot transport themselves to their offices, people cannot afford to feed their families.”
