Soldiers Allegedly Kill Policeman Over Traffic Dispute in Lagos

In a tragic incident in Lagos, a policeman named Saka Ganiyu was reportedly killed by soldiers after he confronted one of them for driving against traffic. The event took place near Volks Bus Stop on Ojo Iyana Iba Road.

According to reports, the soldier, who was not wearing his uniform, was driving an unregistered T4 Volkswagen commercial bus when police officers on enforcement duty stopped him. An argument broke out, and the soldier called for backup. Soon, several soldiers from the Ojo Cantonment Barracks arrived and attacked the policemen.

Inspector Ganiyu sustained serious injuries during the confrontation and was rushed to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital for emergency treatment. Unfortunately, he died while receiving care. His body has been moved to the hospital’s morgue for preservation and an autopsy.

Authorities have been alerted about the incident, and the Commander of the 9 Brigade at Ikeja Cantonment has confirmed that the soldier involved has been taken into custody at their base. This incident highlights ongoing concerns about interactions between military personnel and law enforcement in Nigeria.
