Nigerian social critic, Martise Vincent Otse, popularly known as Very Dark Man (VDM), has denied claims that he defamed renowned legal expert, Femi Falana, SAN. In a video posted on his Instagram account, VDM clarified that he never intended to tarnish Falana’s image but was only reacting to an audio clip involving Nigerian socialite Bobrisky.

VDM explained that he has deep respect for Femi Falana due to the lawyer’s consistent defense of individuals who speak out against injustice. “Uncle Femi Falana is someone I admire because of how he stands up for people like me who speak against the wrongs in society,” VDM said. He recalled Falana’s representation of legendary Nigerian musician Fela Anikulapo Kuti, who fearlessly criticized the government. According to VDM, Fela’s boldness in speaking out is something he looks up to, and the fact that Falana defended Fela further boosted his admiration for the lawyer.

VDM then addressed the specific situation involving Bobrisky, where the socialite claimed that both Femi Falana and his son, popular rapper Falz, had allegedly collected N10 million. VDM stated that while he reacted to the audio, he made it clear in his video that he chose not to believe the claim, but would be disappointed if it turned out to be true.

In the video, VDM also mentioned that he had the option of cutting out the part where Femi Falana and Falz were mentioned but decided against it. He felt it was important for a proper investigation to be done into the allegations, and that editing the video would have downplayed the seriousness of the claim.

VDM emphasized that his intention was never to disrespect or defame Femi Falana, but to address the claims made in the Bobrisky audio. He closed by reaffirming his admiration for the legal expert and his efforts to defend people who challenge the status quo.
