Popular Nigerian crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, has become the center of a new controversy. Rumors have surfaced claiming that Bobrisky paid N15 million to officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to avoid serving prison time for money laundering. However, Bobrisky has come forward to deny these allegations. Let’s dive into the details.
On Tuesday, Martins Vincent Otse, a popular influencer known as VeryDarkMan, shared a voice recording online that supposedly featured Bobrisky. In the recording, Bobrisky allegedly admitted to paying N15 million to EFCC officials to drop a money laundering charge against him.
The voice recording allegedly had Bobrisky saying that, even though he was sentenced to six months in prison, he never actually spent a day behind bars. Instead, he reportedly stayed in a lodge, thanks to a deal arranged by his godfather.
In April 2024, Bobrisky was convicted and sentenced to six months imprisonment for damaging Nigerian currency, commonly referred to as naira mutilation. However, the new allegations suggest he might have bribed his way out of the sentence, which sparked widespread reactions.
Shortly after the voice recording went viral, Bobrisky took to Instagram to dismiss the claims. He labeled the recording as fake and insisted that he served his full prison term. “I didn’t pay any EFCC money; it is a very big lie. I served my term in full and I came out. Discard any false information,” he said in his post.
