Two Political Thugs Arrested in Edo Before Governorship Election; Firearms Seized

As the governorship election approaches in Edo State, the Nigeria Police Force is taking strong measures to ensure a peaceful electoral process. In a recent operation, police arrested two individuals identified as political thugs, underscoring their commitment to preventing electoral violence.

The arrests took place during an overnight raid on September 21, just hours before the election. Acting on a tip-off, police operatives targeted locations where armed individuals were suspected of planning to disrupt the electoral process.

Edwin Obanor, 43, described as a leader of an armed group, was apprehended in Oredo Ward 4. Meanwhile, Audu Tajudeen, 41, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was arrested at Igara Akoko.

During the operation, police discovered three cut-to-size locally fabricated pistols in Obanor’s possession and one locally made gun from Tajudeen. The recovery of these firearms highlights the potential threats to the electoral process and the need for vigilant law enforcement.

ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, emphasized that these arrests are part of the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing efforts to maintain law and order. He stated, “These arrests are a testament to our commitment to ensuring a peaceful electoral process.” The police have made it clear that they will not tolerate any form of violence or disorder during the elections.

With elections often marred by violence and intimidation, the proactive steps taken by the police serve as a crucial reminder of the importance of security in maintaining democracy. The collaboration between police and other security agencies aims to create a safe environment for citizens to exercise their right to vote.

As Edo State gears up for the governorship election, the police remain vigilant. They are prepared to act decisively against any threats to the electoral process, ensuring that voters can participate without fear of violence or intimidation.

In conclusion, the recent arrests serve as a significant step towards safeguarding the upcoming election. The Nigeria Police Force is determined to foster an environment of peace and security, reinforcing the principles of democracy in Edo State.
