On September 18, 2024, the Nassau County Police Department in New York debunked rumors that explosives were discovered in a car near the site of former President Donald Trump’s upcoming rally. These rumors had been spreading on social media, but authorities have confirmed they are false.
A police spokesperson clarified, “There’s no credibility to that,” during a conversation with Anadolu, dispelling concerns about potential danger at the rally.
Trump is slated to speak at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, Long Island, with the event starting at 7 p.m. local time (2300 GMT). This rally is taking place just a few days after a disturbing incident at Trump’s Florida golf course, where he was the target of a second assassination attempt.
The suspect in that case, Ryan Routh, 58, was a former Trump supporter who has since become a critic. He has been charged with firearm-related offenses and is anticipated to face additional charges. The situation unfolded when a Secret Service agent at the golf course observed the barrel of an AK-47-style assault rifle protruding from the bushes about 400-500 yards away. The agent, fearing for Trump’s safety, opened fire.
The suspect abandoned his rifle, two backpacks, and a GoPro camera before fleeing in a black SUV. Thanks to a witness who took photos of the vehicle and its license plate, Routh was apprehended on a nearby highway.
This incident follows a previous attack on July 13, when 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks targeted Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania. Crooks fired shots that grazed Trump’s right ear before being subdued.
Despite these troubling events, authorities have assured the public that there is no immediate threat related to the rally, and security measures are in place to ensure safety.
