Five Youths Killed in Fresh Gunmen Attack in Plateau State

In another tragic incident, five young men were killed by unidentified gunmen in the Mbar community, located in the Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State. The attack happened on Sunday night, while the victims were traveling between Mbar town and Koh village.

According to the Bokkos Cultural Development Council Vanguard, the attackers were fleeing terrorists, who had earlier been driven out of the mountains by the military. The gunmen, riding on motorcycles, ambushed the unarmed youths near Yelwa Nono village. Despite receiving warnings about terrorist activity in the area, security forces arrived too late, and the attackers escaped.

This attack follows a series of similar violent incidents in the region, including the killing of eleven youths in nearby villages earlier this month. The local community has condemned these unprovoked attacks, believing they are part of a calculated effort to force people from their ancestral lands.

Local leaders have called for more community involvement in security efforts, suggesting that local residents could work alongside the military, similar to joint task forces in other regions. They believe local knowledge of the area can help identify criminal elements and provide better intelligence to prevent future attacks.

Christy Loyi, the Director of Personnel Management for Bokkos Local Government Council, confirmed the incident and assured the affected families that security will be strengthened to prevent further attacks.
