Nigerians can now say goodbye to the long-standing issue of fuel queues, according to businessman Femi Otedola. On Sunday, Otedola confirmed that the country has entered a new era as the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) began loading petrol from Dangote Refinery.
Otedola, owner of Geregu Power Plant, celebrated this milestone and praised President Bola Tinubu for making this achievement possible. He shared his excitement, saying that fuel queues and scarcity are now a thing of the past thanks to the work done by Dangote Refinery.
“Kudos to President Tinubu for making this a reality! Fuel queues are now a thing of the past as Dangote Refinery starts loading petrol,” Otedola wrote.
He also reflected on his earlier attempts, alongside Aliko Dangote, to invest in Nigeria’s refineries. Their efforts were blocked by government policies at the time. However, Otedola applauded Dangote for persevering and helping to break Nigeria free from dependence on foreign fuel.
“You have not just built a refinery; you have freed us from years of economic dependence. The days of relying on foreign powers for our fuel are over,” Otedola said.
This achievement is a significant shift for Nigeria, signaling the end of an era where a few local groups made massive profits by keeping the country dependent on imported fuel. With Dangote Refinery now in operation, Otedola believes Nigeria is on a path toward greater economic independence.
