Edo Governorship Election is a Life-or-death Matter – Gov Obaseki

As the people of Edo State prepare for the governorship election on September 21, Governor Godwin Obaseki has stressed the importance of the upcoming polls, describing it as a “life-or-death” matter. He issued a strong warning to the opposition, stating that any attempt to rig or manipulate the results would have dire consequences.

Obaseki made this bold statement during a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rally held in the Ekemwan area of Edo State. His warning comes just days before voters are set to choose the next governor.

“The person I took over from had no respect for our people, had no respect for women, encouraged pr*stitution and women trafficking.

“When I took over office our pensioners wore black on Labour Day buy today they wear white.

“When I took office, our youths had no jobs, but today don’t they have jobs? After eight years is Edo not one of the safest in Nigeria?

“This election is a do or die, if they do, we will die. Next week Saturday by this time, vote for PDP to become the next governor.”

The election is expected to be a tight race, with key candidates including Asue Ighodalo of the PDP, Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP).

Edo residents will soon make their choice, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. Obaseki’s remarks highlight the tension surrounding the election, as all parties prepare for what is expected to be a highly competitive contest.

What are your thoughts on the election? Will Obaseki’s warning affect the outcome, or is it just election rhetoric?
