In a shocking development, Jeremiah Paul, a 20-year-old man from Kaduna State, has been arrested for the gruesome murder of Damilola Olowoyo, a 19-year-old student at the Federal University Lokoja, Kogi State. This heinous crime was reportedly committed for a money ritual.
According to the Kogi State Police Command, Paul, along with three accomplices—Emmanuel Otitoju, Banabas Olugbenga, and Ajayi Basit Ayomide—lured Damilola to an isolated area under the pretense of friendship. Once there, Paul drugged her with a mixture of codeine and Sprite, which left her incapacitated.
Paul then took Damilola to an unfinished building, strangled her, and dismembered her body. He removed her eyes, lungs, liver, tongue, and parts of her buttocks as part of the ritual. Initially, Paul contacted Damilola’s parents and demanded a ransom of N400,000, which they paid before she was killed.
Paul confessed that he found the native doctor, who gave him the ritual instructions, through TikTok. The doctor, based in Ibadan, sent ritual items via a driver, which Paul used to carry out the crime.
This tragic incident underscores the dangers of money rituals and highlights the importance of vigilance among students and their families. The police are calling on everyone to be cautious about whom they trust and to stay alert to avoid such violent crimes.
