A heartbreaking accident on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway has resulted in the deaths of 21 travelers, while three others have been seriously injured. The incident took place on Thursday, September 12, 2024, when a trailer truck collided with a passenger Hummer bus traveling towards Kano and Batsari in Katsina state.
According to a Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) officer who was involved in the rescue efforts, the three survivors were immediately taken to Umaru Musa Memorial Hospital in Sabon-Wuse for urgent medical attention. Sadly, the bodies of those who lost their lives were sent to the hospital’s morgue.
The crash occurred near a road diversion that forced vehicles from both directions onto a single lane. It’s believed this may have contributed to the tragic collision. Shockingly, the driver of the trailer fled the scene, abandoning his vehicle and another container truck, causing further traffic congestion on the busy highway.
S.P Idris Ibrahim, the Divisional Police Officer of Tafa Division, confirmed the accident and mentioned that his report is being compiled for the state command.
