In a tragic turn of events, a police officer was killed by a hit-and-run driver at a checkpoint in Ado-Ekiti on the night of September 9, 2024. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Idris Lawal was performing his duties during a stop-and-search operation on Iworoko Road when the incident occurred around 11 p.m.

Despite being rushed to the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) for emergency care, ASP Lawal was pronounced dead by the attending doctors. The body has been taken to the morgue for an autopsy.

The vehicle involved in the incident is reported to be a white, unmarked Mercedes Benz. The police are actively working to locate the driver responsible and bring them to justice.
