The United Arab Emirates (UAE) recently deported 400 Nigerians, which included 90 women and 310 men, according to a report by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA). The deportees were received by officials at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. Representatives from the Office of the National Security Adviser, the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons, as well as other key agencies such as the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), were present.
This deportation comes shortly after 103 Nigerians were deported from Turkey, also received at the same airport by officials from NEMA and other stakeholders. The group of Nigerians deported from the UAE arrived at 7:00 pm through the pilgrims wing of the airport.
In another case, 264 Nigerian passengers who arrived at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, were informed that their visas had been canceled on arrival. This incident occurred on November 13, 2023, causing significant concern among travelers.
Following these events, the Nigerian government has called for calm. Officials are working closely with international authorities to ensure that the rights and safety of Nigerian citizens abroad are respected.
The series of deportations highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Nigerians living abroad, with many calling for more robust support systems and policies to address the needs of migrants and ensure their safety.
