Tinubu Tells Shettima To Visit Flooded Maiduguri

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has instructed Vice President Sen. Kashim Shettima to travel to Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, because of the severe flooding that has left many residents homeless.

The Vice President announced this during his speech on Tuesday at the 17th Annual Banking and Finance Conference (CIBN). The conference focused on “Accelerated Economic Growth and Development: Current Status and Future Directions.”

Shettima said he would head to Maiduguri immediately after the conference, following the President’s directive, as the city is experiencing severe flooding.

Shettima said,

”After this meeting with the consent of the President, I will rush to Maiduguri. The whole city has been overtaken by flood.

“It is not peculiar to one part of the country. We are facing this challenges right from Bayelsa to Sokoto.

“Be rest assured that the President has the nation at heart and will do whatever it takes to salvage the state of affairs,”

“I want to use this forum to commiserate with the people of our great nation over the flood disasters we are recording all across the length and breath of this nation,”

Recent reports show that many parts of Maiduguri have been heavily flooded due to the Alau Dam overflowing.

The flooding has displaced numerous residents from their homes, impacting various areas of Maiduguri, Borno State’s capital.

Social media has been filled with videos showing people evacuating their homes and seeking temporary shelter until the flooding subsides.

Borno State government had previously closed schools, concerned that the flooding might worsen within the next 48 hours.
