The chairman of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Akure South, Ondo State, Oluwatuyi Olasoji, tragically passed away after collapsing at a petrol station while waiting to purchase fuel.
Reports suggest that the chairman collapsed last week as he queued to buy petrol. He was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Center in Owo, where he underwent surgery. Sadly, he passed away a few days later on Monday.
This unfortunate incident occurred amidst a fuel scarcity that has hit the country, causing long lines at petrol stations and leading to increased frustration among motorists. The scarcity has also worsened traffic in many cities, with commuters facing higher transport fares and longer wait times at bus stops.
SaharaReporters earlier revealed that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) assured that the current petrol scarcity would ease soon as more stations recalibrate their systems and resume fuel sales.
The NNPCL clarified that fuel prices are now dictated by market forces, influenced by the exchange rate, as petrol subsidy removal has led to the deregulation of prices.
On the potential fuel supply from the Dangote Refinery, the NNPCL stated that it anticipates lifting petrol from the refinery by mid-September, in line with the timeline provided by the company.
