Imo PDP Condemns Recent Killings, Accuses Governor Uzodinma of Inaction

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has expressed strong disapproval of the increasing violence in the state, particularly the recent attacks by unidentified gunmen. These violent incidents occurred at the council headquarters of Isiala Mbano Local Government Area (LGA), resulting in the tragic deaths of security guards. Additionally, the Obowo LGA Divisional Police Headquarters was set on fire, and a police officer was murdered at his home near the NEPA junction in the Umulogho community.

In a press statement issued by Lancelot Obiaku, the PDP’s state publicity secretary, the party described the attacks as unjustifiable and completely alien to the values of Nigerian society. Obiaku emphasized that such acts of violence should not be tolerated. He also extended the party’s condolences to the families and friends of the victims, as well as the people of Imo State, who are mourning the loss of innocent lives.

The PDP expressed disappointment in the leadership of Governor Hope Uzodinma, accusing him of being unresponsive to the worsening security situation in the state. According to Obiaku, the governor and his administration have not taken any concrete steps to prevent these attacks. This, he said, has allowed violence, killings, and destruction to become the norm, effectively turning Imo State into a war zone filled with bloodshed and sorrow.

Obiaku further criticized the government for its focus on internal party politics while violence rages across the state. He noted that instead of addressing the security challenges, Governor Uzodinma and the All Progressives Congress (APC) are more concerned with conducting secret primary elections for local government offices. In a leaked video, the governor was heard claiming to be aware of the situation in all the LGAs of the state. However, the PDP argues that the governor’s actions tell a different story, as the attacks continue unabated.

The PDP’s message to the APC-led government is clear: lives and security must take precedence over political maneuvers. The party urged Governor Uzodinma to take immediate and effective action to restore peace and safety in Imo State before more innocent lives are lost.
