On the night of September 2, 2024, an attempted kidnapping in Delta State turned tragic as gunmen killed two policemen and a driver while trying to abduct Mrs. Christy Uroye, the wife of a Delta State lawmaker. The incident took place at Okoloba Junction, along Jakpa Road in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers shot the driver and the policemen who were escorting Mrs. Uroye in an SUV before abducting her. However, their escape was short-lived as their getaway vehicle crashed on the busy road, leading to Mrs. Uroye’s rescue. She is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital nearby.
Residents in the area fled the scene during the attack to avoid being hit by stray bullets. The spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident and mentioned that the operation did not succeed. He also noted that three AK-47 rifles were recovered from the suspects’ vehicle.
A family source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the woman is safe and being treated at a local hospital. The case highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region.
