The Nasarawa State Police Command made a significant breakthrough in their fight against drug-related crimes by arresting a suspected drug dealer and recovering 15 bags of Indian hemp. The arrest, which took place on August 31, 2024, underscores the ongoing efforts of the police to combat crime in the state.
The suspect, Saturday Gabriel, a 43-year-old man from Edo State, was apprehended following a tip-off. Police received information that a Toyota Camry with two occupants, suspected of engaging in criminal activities, was heading towards the Nasarawa Toto area. Acting swiftly, officers from the Toto Division set up strategic checkpoints to intercept the vehicle.
At around 1:00 PM, the police successfully intercepted the Toyota Camry in the Gadabuke area of Toto Local Government Area. While one suspect managed to escape, Gabriel was arrested, and 15 bags of dry leaves, believed to be Indian hemp, were recovered from the vehicle. The car, bearing the registration number Lagos KSF 843 FN, was also seized as part of the operation.
Following the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada, ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia. The case will then be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
