Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, has officially assumed the role of the 32nd President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Lagos. He takes over from Mr. Yakubu Maikyau, SAN, whose term ended today.

In his inaugural address, Osigwe emphasized his commitment to holding governments accountable, particularly in areas of justice, equity, and the rule of law. He highlighted the crucial role that the legal profession plays in society and reaffirmed the NBA’s dedication to ensuring that government policies align with the aspirations of the Nigerian people.

Osigwe also stressed the need for immediate action to improve security, protect fundamental human rights, and provide essential services like education, healthcare, and job opportunities for all Nigerians.

Furthermore, Osigwe pledged to focus on the welfare and professional development of lawyers during his tenure. He assured NBA members that their interests would be at the center of the association’s programs, stating, “We will do our utmost best to ensure that we fulfill our promises to create an NBA that prioritizes lawyers in all its initiatives.”

With Osigwe’s leadership, the NBA is set to embark on a new era, committed to making meaningful changes in the legal profession and the broader society.
