Two twin brothers, Obike David and Obike Stanley, were recently arrested by police in Abuja for allegedly running an ATM card theft scheme. The brothers are accused of targeting people who appeared unfamiliar with how to use ATM machines, pretending to offer assistance. While doing so, they would secretly swap the victims’ ATM cards with fake ones. Later, they would use the stolen cards to withdraw money from the victims’ bank accounts.
The arrest was made by operatives from the FCT Police Command, and the FCT Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, briefed the media on the case. He revealed that the suspects confessed to the crime during their interrogation. The police are continuing their investigation, and the brothers will be charged in court once all inquiries are completed.
This incident highlights the need for increased awareness and caution when using ATMs, especially in unfamiliar areas or when approached by strangers offering help.
