A tragic accident occurred in Gantsa town, Buji Local Government Area of Jigawa State on August 27, 2024, resulting in the deaths of five individuals. The victims were traveling in a canoe that capsized while attempting to cross a road submerged by floodwaters.
The accident happened around noon when the canoe, carrying five people, attempted to navigate a road covered by floodwater. Unfortunately, the canoe overturned, and all the occupants drowned.
Upon receiving the distress report, a team of police officers, along with local divers, quickly arrived at the scene to assist with the rescue efforts. Despite their efforts, they were unable to save the individuals.
The bodies of the victims were recovered and transported to Gantsa Cottage Hospital. There, the medical personnel confirmed their deaths. The deceased were later released to their families for burial.

• Idris Abubakar
• Fiddausi Dahiru
• Ramla Nura
• Usman Adamu
All were residents of Malamawar Gangare, Birnin Kudu Local Government Area.
The authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident, especially the impact of the flooding on the road. This tragic event highlights the dangers posed by severe weather conditions and the importance of taking precautions when traveling in such conditions.
