In Sokoto State, Nigeria, the residents of Gobir have taken matters into their own hands. Frustrated with the ineffective response from security forces, they have ventured into the forests to confront bandits and rescue 150 people who were recently abducted.
This bold move follows the brutal killing of Isa Mohammad Bawa, the district head of Gobir, who was abducted, tortured, and killed by the bandits. Shortly after his death, the bandits attacked Gobir town, abducting over 150 mourners.
Despite police officials denying the scale of the abductions, a viral video shows thousands of Gobir residents chanting war songs as they march into the forests. They are determined to either rescue their loved ones or take on the bandits directly, emphasizing their resolve with the chant, “It’s a fight to finish! It’s either us or them.”
The community’s strong stance highlights their desperation and commitment to justice in the face of ongoing violence.
