In Abuja, a Nigerian Navy officer named Abdul Rasheed Muhammad has been arrested for allegedly killing Aminu Ibrahim, the son of a former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral I. I. Ibrahim (retd).
The arrest occurred on August 23, during a routine stop-and-search operation. Police stopped Muhammad in a black Prado SUV, and he was unable to explain how he came by the vehicle.
According to the FCT Police Commissioner, CP Benneth Igweh, the vehicle belonged to the murdered Aminu Ibrahim, who was killed and had his SUV stolen on August 18, 2024, in Maitama. Muhammad, who was on guard duty at a retired Naval officer’s house, attempted to flee from police custody but was quickly rearrested.
During questioning, Muhammad confessed to being part of a three-man gang that specializes in robbing and stealing luxury vehicles. He admitted to shooting Ibrahim and taking his car. He revealed that his gang has successfully completed three such operations. Efforts are now underway to capture the remaining gang members.
